Meet

Dr. Jamie Nenezian

Dr. Jamie Nenezian, a native of Central Florida, earned her Bachelor's Degree in Microbiology and Cell Science from the University of Florida before continuing her academic journey at UF's College of Veterinary Medicine, graduating in 2016. During her time in veterinary school, she was an active member of the student chapter of the Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care club, launching her true passion in veterinary medicine: emergency care.

The daughter of the renowned Dr. Parrott, Dr. Nenezian inherited a deep-seated interest in primates, avian species, and a broader fascination with wildlife and exotics. Her commitment to the well-being of animals extends to her favorite, the opossum, reflecting a unique and diverse spectrum of care in her professional repertoire.

Dr. Nenezian joined the team of St. Charles Veterinary Hospital after graduation in 2016, where she quickly became the practice's medical director and part owner, becoming a full owner in 2023. Dr. Nenezian spearheaded the evolution of St. Charles Veterinary Hospital from a general practice with limited hours to a 24 hour emergency and general practice hybrid. When not involved in emergency cases Dr. Nenezian enjoys mentoring and teaching the DVMs and staff of SCVH.In her personal realm, Dr. Nenezian is surrounded by a loving family, including her husband, daughter, three dogs, two horses, and a flock of chickens. Beyond the veterinary clinic, she finds balance and joy in activities such as CrossFit, movie watching, reading, and embracing the outdoors.

Dr. Walker Roberts

Dr. Roberts, a native of Bedford, New Hampshire, embarked on her academic journey at West Virginia University, graduating in 2014 with a major in Animal Sciences and a minor in Biology. In 2018, she proudly received her veterinary degree from the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine.

Her professional interests span a diverse spectrum, encompassing avian medicine, acupuncture, and the innovative realms of 3D modeling and printing. Dr. Roberts has dedicated a significant portion of her life to the study of avian medicine, ranging from the care of client-owned parrots to conducting research on Andean Condors in Ecuador. She is currently on the path to becoming a specialized avian veterinarian.

Beyond her passion for avian health, Dr. Roberts revels in the joy of escaping the northern cold, taking leisurely walks, and tending to her vibrant flock of cockatiels and parakeets. She's also an ardent enthusiast of video games, costuming, and conventions.

Dr. Kara Knight

Dr. Knight is a proud Floridian, having been born and raised in the Sunshine State. Her educational journey led her to the University of Florida, where she completed both her undergraduate and veterinary degrees.

Dr. Knight's passion for small mammals ignited during her junior year in college when she welcomed her very first pets into her life. These two rescue guinea pigs, Trixie and Bella, introduced her to the world of tiny and squeaky companions, sparking a lifelong fascination.

In addition to her dedication to small mammal medicine, she has a keen interest in teaching and excels in soft tissue surgery. At home, Dr. Knight is a loving fur mom to two lively cats, Persephone and Juno, and her guinea pig, affectionately known as Spike (or the Lemon). When not at work, you can find her tending to her garden, working on her second black belt, or immersing herself in the world of renaissance fairs.

Dr. Ricci May

Dr. Ricci May, a true Nashville, TN native, boasts some interesting encounters, like seeing Reba at the dentist and having Carrie Underwood at her prom dinner. Her lifelong love for wildlife and birding began with her family's tradition of exploring a new national park every summer.

In 2014, she earned a BA in General Biological Sciences from Cornell University. During her college years, she actively engaged in raptor care, guide dog training, and horseback riding. She even served as the pre-veterinary intern at the Nashville Zoo during her year off.

In 2019, Dr. May proudly graduated from the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine. While there, she held the role of avian Vice President in the avian, wildlife, and exotics program, and was a key organizer of a national veterinary student exotics symposium. Her global adventures took her to 15 countries across Africa, Europe, and Asia with the International Veterinary Students' Association. She also spent a month studying vulture populations in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe.

For her externship, Dr. May gained valuable experience at the University of Minnesota Raptor Center. In her leisure time, she cherishes moments with her cat, Layla, and her family in Orlando. Dr. May is thrilled to be a part of the St. Charles team and looks forward to making her mark!

Dr. Steven Richards

Dr. Richards, a Wisconsin native, recently joined us from Louisiana, bringing a touch of Midwest warmth to our team. He earned his undergraduate degree at Iowa State and pursued his DVM at the University of Minnesota, with a special interest in surgery and orthopedics. Beyond the clinic, Dr. Richards finds joy in the great outdoors, often spending quality time with his family. His hobbies extend to woodworking, showcasing his skills beyond the surgical suite. At home, he shares his space with a lively bunch – 6 dogs, 1 cat, 1 tortoise, 2 birds, 1 snake, and 1 tarantula.

Dr. Julie Byers

Dr. Julie Byers is another native of Central Florida, raised on Disney, Publix Subs, and all things Florida. After earning her undergraduate degree in Animal Science Biology from the University of Florida, Dr. Byers continued her education at Mississippi State University earning her degree of veterinary medicine in 2017. From there, she lived in the Dallas-Fort Worth area for several years building her foundation as an emergency veterinarian with a passion for emergency surgery before returning to Central Florida.

Beyond the walls of the clinic, Dr. Byers finds joy in various pursuits that reflect her vibrant personality. Last summer, she embarked on a journey across the US with her golden retriever Caiman and horse Spiffy providing veterinary relief work and demonstrating her commitment to animal care has no limits. Whether she's competing in barrel races, or traveling to new destinations with a sense of curiosity and adventure, Dr. Byers brings a well-rounded and compassionate approach to both her professional and personal life.

Her passion for emergency veterinary care extends beyond the clinic, making her not just a proficient professional but also a warm and empathetic individual who strives to create a positive impact in the lives of animals and their human companions. Dr. Julie Byers stands as a shining example of a veterinarian who seamlessly blends expertise, compassion, and a zest for life in her pursuit of excellence in veterinary medicine.

Dr. Jaime Calcagno

Dr. Jaime Calcagno grew up in upstate New York where she spent her summers catching crawfish and her winters nordic skiing. In 2020, she earned her bachelor’s degree in biology with a minor in Chemistry from Chowan University where she also played NCAA Division II soccer.

In May 2024, Dr. Calcagno received her veterinary degree from North Carolina State College of Veterinary Medicine. Throughout veterinary school, she worked as a dairy cow milker and farm assistant for her university’s Teaching Animal Unit. She will forever be grateful for those early mornings and late nights when it was just her, the cows, and the peaceful sounds of the farm. And of course, the adorable kids, piglets, and calves she got to snuggle with. She also founded a beekeeping club to promote honeybee medicine.

Dr. C has a special interest in exotic species research and is first author of a paper suggesting chemotherapeutic dosing in American bullfrogs. She traveled to Alaska where she came face to face with grizzly bears while participating in a study to establish clinical reference intervals in wild salmon. During her clinical year, she externed at Lion Country Safari, the NC Zoo, and SeaWorld. Dr. Calcagno also loves working with dogs and cats and is the proud recipient of NC State’s Companion Animal Clinical Proficiency award.

During her leisure time, you can find Dr. Calcagno on the pickleball court, playing soccer, or exploring Florida’s beautiful state parks. She is also a self-proclaimed Disney adult who enjoys going to the parks with her family. Dr. Calcagno is proud to be a part of the St. Charles team and is excited to provide veterinary care to the animals of Central Florida.

Dr. Rose Mangiamarchi

Dr. Rose Mangiamarchi, a recent graduate of the University of Florida, always knew she wanted to become a veterinarian. Originally from Venezuela, she moved to the U.S. to pursue her undergraduate studies, earning her Bachelor's Degree in Biology at Florida International University. During her time at UF, Dr. Rose received certifications in Shelter Medicine and Business Management, and served as Vice President of the Integrative Medicine Club. This role inspired her to complete her certification in Mixed Animal Veterinary Acupuncture through Chi University, which she looks forward to incorporating into St. Charles.

Spanish being her first language, Dr. Rose has a profound passion for inclusion, diversity and offering accessible care in underrepresented areas. She has helped organize and participated in mission trips to Honduras and Ecuador, providing free medical care, spay/neutering services, and general animal care, and hopes to continue doing so in the future. Other interests include physical therapy, integrative medicine, exotics and surgery.

In her personal time, Dr. Rose loves spending time with her partner, family, and friends, and enjoys the company of her three-legged dog, Athena. Her favorite place to be is outdoors, where she finds balance and fulfillment in nature.

Rachelle Carl, CVT, CVPM

Born in Virginia, Rachelle grew up in Louisiana and moved to Florida in 2007 with her family. In 2008 Rachelle started her career in veterinary medicine as a Customer Service Representative, advancing to become a Veterinary Assistant 2010.

In 2011, Rachelle found her professional home at St. Charles Veterinary Hospital. Her passion for the veterinary field led her to earn certification as a Veterinary Technician in 2016. She has a special interest in emergency and internal medicine, along with pain control. Of all the exotic species that are seen at St. Charles, tortoises are her favorite. As SCVH grew Rachelle took on management responsibilities and became a Certified Veterinary Practice Manager in 2020.Beyond the clinic, Rachelle lives with her husband, two dogs and a cat. She enjoys spending time with her family, including her niece and nephew, and traveling.

Nicole Lyons

Nicole was born on the shores of Melbourne, FL with a robust 18-year tenure in veterinary care. She has excelled as a manager, demonstrating expertise across general practice, emergency medicine, and exotic animal care. Over 13 years in general practice, Nicole skillfully integrated Eastern and Western medical approaches. In 2018, she transitioned to emergency care, and exotics joining St. Charles Veterinary Hospital.

Nicole's exceptional leadership and ability to inspire our team were evident from the start, leading to her natural promotion to Technician Manager at SCVH in 2019. Her dedication and support for her staff continued, culminating in her promotion to Practice Manager in 2024 at SCVH. Among her favorite aspects of her job is working with primates, although French Bulldogs hold a special place in her heart. Outside of leading the SCVH team, Nicole enjoys spending time with her family, her beloved Frenchie "Lilo," hitting the gym, and rejuvenating near the ocean, which she considers the best therapy.
