Dr. Calcagno

Dr. Jaime Calcagno grew up in upstate New York where she spent her summers catching crawfish and her winters nordic skiing. In 2020, she earned her bachelor’s degree in biology with a minor in Chemistry from Chowan University where she also played NCAA Division II soccer.

In May 2024, Dr. Calcagno received her veterinary degree from North Carolina State College of Veterinary Medicine. Throughout veterinary school, she worked as a dairy cow milker and farm assistant for her university’s Teaching Animal Unit. She will forever be grateful for those early mornings and late nights when it was just her, the cows, and the peaceful sounds of the farm. And of course, the adorable kids, piglets, and calves she got to snuggle with. She also founded a beekeeping club to promote honeybee medicine.

Dr. C has a special interest in exotic species research and is first author of a paper suggesting chemotherapeutic dosing in American bullfrogs. She traveled to Alaska where she came face to face with grizzly bears while participating in a study to establish clinical reference intervals in wild salmon. During her clinical year, she externed at Lion Country Safari, the NC Zoo, and SeaWorld. Dr. Calcagno also loves working with dogs and cats and is the proud recipient of NC State’s Companion Animal Clinical Proficiency award.

During her leisure time, you can find Dr. Calcagno on the pickleball court, playing soccer, or exploring Florida’s beautiful state parks. She is also a self-proclaimed Disney adult who enjoys going to the parks with her family. Dr. Calcagno is proud to be a part of the St. Charles team and is excited to provide veterinary care to the animals of Central Florida.
